Mariyam Shifa is the Director General of Nursing and Head of the Nursing Department, with extensive experience in nursing leadership and healthcare management. She began her career in 1995 as a student nurse with the government and joined Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in October 1998, building nearly three decades of dedicated service to the nursing profession. She holds a master's degree in nursing and has played a key role in strengthening nursing services nationwide.
As the head of the department, she is responsible for the overall management of nurses, ensuring the smooth functioning of all patient care areas, and overseeing student nurses. She also coordinates the placement of nurses from other atolls for professional exposure and assigns nurses to establish new nursing-related services in various islands, including specialized services such as dialysis. Her professional focus is on improving the quality of nursing care and building strong public trust in nursing services
