The Surgery Department of IGMH is nationally recognized and provides comprehensive treatment for complex surgical conditions in critically ill patients and victims of trauma. The department comprises a team of highly qualified and experienced surgeons who are widely recognized for their expertise and clinical excellence.
The Department of Surgery at IGMH/DH is the Maldives' premier provider of tertiary surgical care and the nation’s principal referral center for complex cases. We combine high-volume clinical excellence with a commitment to patient safety, innovation, and medical education, serving as the primary clinical site for the Maldives National University (MNU) School of Medicine.
Our department is organized into five core divisions, each providing expert elective and emergency services:
General Surgery: Comprehensive care for abdominal, endocrine, and soft tissue conditions, utilizing advanced laparoscopic techniques and diagnostic endoscopy.
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: Specializing in post-traumatic reconstruction, microsurgery, and flap surgery. This division includes dedicated units for Burn Care and Advanced Wound Management.
Surgical Gastroenterology: Focused on diseases of the GI tract, liver, and pancreas. Specialized services include Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, and complex Hepato-Biliary procedures.
Pediatric Surgery: Providing expert surgical care for neonates and children, including the correction of congenital anomalies and 24/7 pediatric trauma support.
Vascular Surgery: Expert management of the arterial and venous systems, offering both open and endovascular interventions for limb salvage and vascular diseases.
